Autumn 2009 Clare Family Learning Newsletter

1. Clare Family Learning Project DVD and Family Learning Programmes in Ireland was launched by Minister Sean Haughey at a NALA Family Literacy Event as part of National Adult Literacy Awareness Week in the National Library of Ireland 23rd September. 2. A viewing of the Clare Family Learning Project DVD was held on Thursday 24th September at 7.30pm in the Adult Education Centre, Ennis for those who took part in the making of the DVD.

3. The Ofsted Family Learning Report (Office for Standards in Education, UK) July 2009 shows evidence of the positive impact of family learning. Copy and paste the following into the browser, then click on PDF/Word version.

4. Dads in Education looks at how to make our services more Dad friendly, take the Dad test to see how you are doing!

5. We are working in partnership with Mental Health Ireland providing a four week programme for parents called Relaxation and managing stress. Parents will model strategies for coping with stress for their children at home.

6. Final countdown to our International and National Family Learning Tutor Training on 13th October. We have 29 attending, mainly Irish with participants from Australia, Norway, Spain, Germany, UK as part of the Grundtvig Training for Trainers funding.

7. Do you want to translate posters so that those with poor English can attend your classes? Write up the poster minus any images, right click on the mouse, click on translate, choose the language you need, click green button. Then add images.

8. 32 classes have been set up around the county since starting back in September, using 21 different programme types, meeting the diverse needs of the community.

9. EFLN European Family Learning Network have up to date information on what is happening in this area across Europe. Keep an eye on their website www.efln.eu under downloads.

10. Margaret Keating from Family Learning in Bray, has produced a bright little book for parents called The What, Why and How Book, Creative Fun for Parents and Toddlers. This is available to download at www.parent-education.eu
